Finding the perfect font is tricky, and in an increasingly digital age, the options seem endless.
This handy volume takes the mystery out of font selection by displaying the entire alphabet and numerals for 1000 unique typefaces, making it easy for designers – or anyone who works with type – to find the perfect face for any job. And, an additional feature, color photos offer real-world examples of many of the fonts in action, showing how they translate from screen to final layout.
Websmedia Publishing (Seoul, Korea) did a feature on Berlin and included a 2 page interview and showcase of Plasticbag in the December issue of their monthly publication »w.e.b. magazine«.

Since I have begun designing iPhone app interfaces last year, I have been deeply in touch with the nuances of the interfaces of native and non-native apps. As a designer who is also adept in print design and has an acute typographical sense, I cannot help but keep noticing the flaws and imperfections of the 44-pixel rhythm.1 diggs in Technology 5 months ago

The LIVE Singapore! exhibition is co-organised with the Singapore Art Museum and presents five different perspectives into Singapore’s urban dynamics using graphic visualisations of selected digital data generated by people in Singapore and their actions. Employing real-time data recorded and captured by a vast system of communication devices, microcontrollers and sensors commonly found in our urban environment and mapping this information onto multi-dimensional maps of Singapore, this geographical information system merges cartography, statistical analysis and data platform technology. It suggests new ways to view, understand, and ultimately navigate our city, like never before. This presentation is a convergence of art, digital media and information technology. It demonstrates the potential of this new form of visual language and its capacity to reveal interesting social, economic and mobility patterns. Singapore, the real-time city is now truly, real!1 diggs in Technology 9 months ago

When it comes to designing in Photoshop, there is a myriad of ways one could use to achieve a certain result, especially when it comes to photo retouching. Designers use technique they are most confident as well as comfortable with, which is great because it’s always useful to peek into the workflow of our colleagues and learn new design approaches.29 diggs in Technology 10 months ago

If you are watching TV and you hear a helicopter in your surround sound, says Santiago Alfaro, a grad student at MIT's media lab. Wouldn't it be cool to just turn around and be able to see that helicopter as it goes into the screen?" Sure would. And Alfaro has realized that idea, in his thesis project, Surround Vision.2 diggs in * 21 months ago

When architects were bored with functionalism, they turned Louis Sullivan’s dictum ‘form follows function’ into ‘form follows fun’ and added arbitrary elements to their buildings. Towers, concrete sails, ziggurats, arches, architraves and all sorts of embellishments that served no purpose except embellishment. When graphic designers got bored with the perfection offered by the newly arrived computers that could render artwork to within a tiny pixel, they rebelled by writing programmes that randomized individual letters and whole pages every time a printer processed them. A designer who didn’t like what a copywriter had delivered even set that text in illegible pictograms and icons.1 diggs in Business 15 months ago

Native drag & drop combined with FileReader() makes it really easy to develop apps which support drag & drop of files from a user’s desktop. This app accepts image files and converts the pixels into floating 3D cubes. Each pixel/cube has a luminosity which is calculated by weighing various fractions of the RGB value ~ in exactly the same way achieved in this Air/Flash app and this version using the webcam). The x and y properties of each cube are directly translated from the location of the original pixel and luma is applied to the z axis for depth ~ a luminosity height map in effect. Device orientation has been employed (please use the latest build of Chromium if you want to experience this) as an alternative(fun) way to view the model. Thanks to the work done on Three.js by the talented @MrDoob. Font as usual has been provided by the Google Font Directory.1 diggs in Technology 15 months ago

How do you navigate content on the iPad? Scroll or flip?
